Valentine’s Night Was More Than Alright

Almost 90 people, attended the Palace in St Annes, to enjoy a fun packed evening in anticipation of Valentines Day.

John and Kathryn Lee took centre stage as they welcomed over 40 ladies and gentlemen to the Lodge’s new home.

From a delightful chocolate fountain in the lobby to an outstanding festive board in the main room, this unique occasion had all the hallmarks of a truly memorable evening.

A quick meeting was dispatched and enjoyed by members and guests alike. Bill Lawrenson, a former pupil of Baines School, visited for the first time at the tender age of 89 years. He was astounded by the magnitude of the event and promised to return to his own province to tell them how things should be done. After presenting a gift to the lodge he also proposed a toast at the subsequent banquet to celebrate the 275th anniversary of James Baines who founded the associated school.

With ‘Red Hot’ Tomato Soup, ‘Succulent chicken breast’ and ‘a perfect duo’ to finish, the catering expertise of Lee Munro and his team was sensational. The stewardship of John and Pam Nicholls meant there wasn’t a dry glass in the room at any point.

John Lee entertained the audience with a quick fire round of valentines anagrams, followed by Mr and Mrs and then a music quiz matching the love theme. Fun, laughter and enjoyment was all around. The ladies also received a small bundle of gifts to include a bottle of wine, a large Lindt chocolate bar and a gift voucher.

The raffle raised £665 for good causes.

With the possibility of four joining members, a new candidate and a successful tour of the lodge room, it’s fair to say that love was certainly in the air.
